What is Anodyne Therapy?

Anodyne Therapy: A Photo-Energy Treatment Modality

Anodyne therapy was invented by a man who lost his father due to complications of a diabetic amputation.

What is Anodyne Therapy?
The word Anodyne comes from Latin and means without (ano) pain (dynus). Anodyne therapy is usually used as one component of a comprehensive Physical/Occupational Therapy plan of care. Commonly, Anodyne is used to improve circulation and reduce pain, stiffness, and muscle spasm anywhere the pads are placed on the body. Anodyne treatments may also be used during therapy sessions to make it more comfortable for patients to tolerate other types of therapy for improving strength, flexibility, balance and function.

Anodyne therapy is a patented form of Monochromatic Infrared Photo-Thermal Energy (MIRE).

Anodyne

Monochromatic means there is only one wavelength of light emitted from the 60 super-luminous light emitting diodes or LEDs in each therapy pad

InfraRed describes light waves beyond the red spectrum. It is invisible to the human eye so you will not see it, even when the pads are on. Anodyne delivers photo energy at a wavelength of 890 nanometers (nm). This wavelength can penetrate into tissue about 5 centimeters, or 2 ½ inches. This particular wavelength is extremely well-absorbed by hemoglobin in the blood vessels, which is where it has its biological effect.

Photo-thermal Energy - Anodyne technology is not limited to thermal energy alone. The Anodyne LEDs also emit 292 pulses of photon energy per second, at about 780 milliwatts (mw) per therapy pad. This combination of photo (light) energy plus thermal (heat) energy is particularly important for effectiveness of therapy. Comparison scans of circulatory improvement following Anodyne therapy versus heat therapy alone show significantly better results with the combination (photo + thermal) than with heat alone.

***Anodyne is FDA cleared for temporarily increasing circulation and reducing pain, stiffness and muscle spasm. Just like other physical medicine modalities, Anodyne Therapy is not cleared for any specific conditions or diagnoses and Anodyne does not market it for anything other than its cleared use.***
